Editorial Reviews In Watsuki's modern-day follow-up to his smash Ruroni Kenshin, we meet high school student Kazuhiko Muto, who dreams of rescuing a pretty schoolgirl from a hideous, tentacled beast. Check out more of my reviews here.

Fellow students address Tokiko's scar -- and we get a glimpse of its origin -- but the main characters still leave it be, a fact that I still appreciate. To his horror, Kazuhiko discovers that his dream is actually a terrifying reality and the creature that he battled is a "homunculus," one of a legion of man-eating monsters who hide among the general population in human guise until they can prey upon their victims. He unexpectedly experienced problems drawing the manga's fight scenes and said he "struggled with the comedic elements". He won an honorable mention prize in the Weekly Shonen Jump.

Popular Reviews. The author's comments are the most interesting part, and he actually says it's hard to draw interesting battle scenes. In retrospect it all kind of happens too easily and it disconnects you from the storyline somewhat, but the lighthearted fair and blend of comedy helped the lacking areas of the first thirteen episodes.

It turns out that Tokiko is a member of the Alchemist Warriors, an organization sworn to protect the world from the diabolical creatures. Printer Friendly The Show: With words like alchemy and homunculi being thrown around in the description for Buso Renkin you'd almost be given the impression that it's similar to Fullmetal Alchemist.

Without these cookies, we can't provide services to you. I can't wait for the series to end. What's here is decent but underwhelming just the same. For example, they let us know which features and sections are most popular.

VIZ's latest release is its own entity and the fact that it comes from the mind of Nobuhiro Watsuki, esteemed creator of Rurouni Kenshin, definitely gives the show it's own legs to stand on.

The plot bumbles along, drawing on numerous shonen stereotypes, and after reading it, I couldn't quite remember it, because it reminded me of so many other things that I'd read. With episodes fourteen through twenty-six the show's dynamic shifts somewhat.

One thing about this series that I didn't mention before was the artistic design. The biggest change this time around comes from the tone of the series itself.

Retrieved September 12, The set proved to be entertaining though and it had a lot to offer, so naturally when I was pleased when the second set arrived. During the Alchemist Army's final battle against Victor, Kazuki applies the white kakugane to Victor, but it only weakens him.

Later, while he worked as an assistant, he presented works such as Sengoku No Mikazuki. With his alchemic powers in full swing he winds up having to power up to his Black Kakugane state in order to beat Victor, the king of homunculi.

If characters fight for three days and three nights, how do you draw that in any reasonable way? Just not my cup of tea. The focus is still greatly on Kazuki, for better or worse, and the secondary cast of characters is still as endearing and robust.

Technically speaking the quality for each is roughly the same and about what you'd expect a stereo presentation to sound like. Watsuki offers up strong artwork, clear storytelling, hyper-kinetic action, monsters, arcane weaponry and characters crying out their special moves, such as "Valkyrie Skirt!Mar 19,  · Watsuki offers up strong artwork, clear storytelling, hyper-kinetic action, monsters, arcane weaponry and characters crying out their special moves, such as "Valkyrie Skirt!" and the titular "Buso Renkin!" This first volume is mostly setup, but Watsuki's fans will want to stay around for the ride.5/5(2).

Feb 06,  · Kazuki inadvertently reveals his identity as an Alchemist Warrior to the Hayasaka twins, members of the L.X.E. (League of Extraordinary Elects), when he activates his Buso Renkin in front of them.

After Tokiko and Kazuki take on the twins in a late-night battle, they learn the location of the L.X.E. headquarters, and head there along with Captain Bravo. Intending to put an end to Dr. Butterfly.
